The Cape Hindu Cultural Society
Sports
Over the last few years, the Cape Hindu Cultural Society (CHCS) has hosted Table Tennis, Chess, Cricket, Volley Ball, Mountain Hikes, Picnics, etc. These events were originally initiated by Shri Kirtibhai Pandya (Guruji) for and behalf of the CHCS, and were well supported by players, family, sport enthusiasts, donors and other interested parties. Our Guruji’s foresight, passion and sheer dedication to organize and host these events inspired other members from the Society to get involved and soon some of these games became an annual event on the CHCS calendar.
Primary Purpose
From the outset, the primary purpose of these activities was to unite the community, promote health and well-being, develop skills, nurture and celebrate talent within our community and to simply enjoy our time together.
In 2017, the CHCS decided to form a Sports and Recreation sub-Committee to encourage and support these well-supported and enjoyable fun events and organise the events on a formal basis.
In the 2017 – 2018 period we have successfully hosted:
- The Open Chess Tournament (Saturday, 28 October at the CHCS Hall),
- The Table Tennis Tournament (Sunday, 29 October at the CHCS Hall), and
- The Cricket Fun Day (28 January 2018 at the Groote Schuur Primary School).
Amazing Fun-filled
For ALL of these amazing fun-filled and competitive events snacks and drinks were enjoyed and prizes awarded.
In the future years, the vision is to regularly organize events of this type so that all in our community may challenge each other in a sporting way and have fun at the same time.
All pictures of our recent events can be found on the CHCS website under the Photo and Video Gallery section. Kindly peruse and join the fun in all such events.
If there are any improvement suggestions from community members, please communicate these to the CHCS.
